This is an attempt to capture the feeling of falling that’s present in October. It’s an idea, really, not particularly well executed in this recording, but the idea is to use the piano to express what the season might sound like if it could play the piano. You’ll hear the falling leaves, the wind rustling those that have already fallen, and the melancholy of the days as they grow shorter. Perhaps one day I’ll revisit this idea and turn it into an actual composition. But for now, this is where it’s at.

Fall is so named because it seems everything is falling. The leaves, the temperature, even the length of the day... as the fall wears on, my spirits begin to fall, too. This piece attempts to capture the falling-ness of fall.Download

Your left hand seems to convey a sense of darkness and even foreboding, while the right hand seems to tell us the leaves, even as they are falling and being blown about, are clinging to life as long as they can. The second part of the music sounds hard and cold like the forerunner of winter cold and snow. Then everything slows down until all the leaves are down and still in the colder air. Very nice.
